The Restoration Room

A play by Harley Erdman
Cast:  1m, 1w
Run time:  approximately 80 minutes

Two librarians, Olivia and Brad, casually meet on a bench outside the university library where they both work, and bond over their love for books and ideas. Both are around forty years old. Both are encumbered by marriages, kids, and unrealized dreams that leave them at the margins of academia.

Their friendship becomes a dangerous emotional affair that takes place during regular working hours in and around the library, including the hidden recesses of the stacks and the dark and mysterious restoration room. Unable to fulfill their longing for each other physically, they create an erotic relationship based around language, imagination, and desire, fueled by emails, texts, and conversation.

Fantasy and reality converge in this portrait of two people dancing at the edge of a precipice that neither of them wants to go over but from which neither can back away.
